I've found that due to a general state of boredom with the game atm i've rather taken to pvp. I've also found that my age-old lvl 42 ill/storm (who will never hit 50 at this rate) doesnt suck at it, in fact she's rather handy. Despite the fact that i've recently respecced, i was thinking of doing so again into a more pvp friendly build so i thought i'd post my build to get some general pointers/abuse.

Atm i'm running with hover and fly with recall friend, which has served me well for PvE but i've found the TP temp power in Sirens VERY effective for getting the jump on people and running away. It's not so great for chasing or scouting though so i might miss fly, but it's also a tad end heavy as i keep sup invis and hurricane on all the time.

TP foe isn't a power i've ever taken before, and one i'm not too fond of, but i'll give it a try, is it ok slotted like that?

O2 boost…it's quite handy and i have saved people with it (i mostly team pvp rather than duel) but as we know it's not the greatest heal in the world. Opinions on dropping it altogether? If so what could replace it. I've no end for additional toggles. How useful is group invis in PvP?

Also, i find i rarely use deceive in pvp, does it work in one go coz i dont think i ever remember actually getting someone with it, though it's hard to tell what with the pace of pvp. Is it all that or would i be better off with getting say aid self in it's place with aid other taken at lvl 12?

Please also bear in mind that while i want to perform better in pvp, i also dont want to cripple myself in PvE, as despite the odds i still hold out hope of getting to 50 one day.

Your builds pretty good Kitty….haven't had time to reply before now….but Psyline very alternative build really meant I had to post here.
Do yourself a favour and scrub the inside of your head as I did after reading it

I'd advice against teleport in PvP as it's too tricky and too enddraining to use efficiently.

Same goes for fly really as you will be a sitting duck when supression kicks in.

Health really isn't that useful for squishies because of the low hps and it wont save you in PvP.

Deceive is a nice power in PvE but it's uses are limited in PvP.

Lighting Storm is again a very nice power in PvE but since it's stationary, doesn't do fantastic dmg and simply costs too much end to use I'd say skip it.

I know I have both Sup Invis and Steamy Mist in this build and you could probably lose one of them if you wanted to but the resistances in SM is just too good to pass on imo.

TP self allows you to move if immob but not held, and got me out of trouble when people tp foed me in to a mob, and i was gone before the mob could attack.

Lightning storm should allow you to drop a hold or two, hurricane up and pop a storm off overhead, which should make it more difficult for the attacker to approach.

I didn't join this game to do PVP and with the way the PVP system works here I'd say that certain AT Power Combinations work well PVP, personal opinion is ill/storm isn't one of them.

The PVP system in this game is far from balanced and the ability to bring "skill" in to play is very limited due to the inherent weaknesses of so many of the ATs here. No matter how much nerfing you put in to place, if a trollers holds can't pin something long enough for them to take it down which I might add takes far longer than a Stalker can AS you and get a 2nd attack in (due to their resistence to things like mez - something controllers lack).

I put the build up as it's the 1st PVP build I've built for ill/storm, but tbh I don't intend respeccing Psy for PVP. He is far too good PVE to want to change him and the only reason i'd go to a PVP zone is to get the badges I need from there.

If you look at the majority of PVP games, the characters are all of equal ability and player skill sets them apart there-after, in COX this really isn't the case.

PVE, I've cleared mobs that regen scrappers and tanks would normally be required for.

If you want to help the storm set for PVP, make O2 boost be an AOE heal rather than a targetted, that way at least the storm set would get a self heal without having to dip in to the medicine pool.

If you look at MMO PVP. Thats why I was very prejudiced toward PVP in any MMORPG. I was a fighting game player for 10 years before i came to COH. Where you picked characters from a small list and played against the other human player. Most of those games are inbalanced too, but can still be fun to play (Street fighters for instance). COX still has best online PVP I have found so far, naturally there are persisting problems. It would be silly to claim a perfect game would exist somewhere.

Just a fact. For everything to be in balance would require characters to be carbon-copies of each other.

(An RPG game with evolving stats will always create imbalance in pvp. Hammerfall's law.)

Bottom line: we can still enjoy the game even if it is imbalanced.

That's the real issue with fighting Illus/Storm, people know that you rely on pets for damage so they don't stay near them. The trick therefore is to trap them somehow. Usually you need to focus on ATs which are vulnerable to Blind, that gives you the time to pin them down. Usually it's best to open with Blind, summon Phantom Army and then bring down Freezing rain. There should be just enough time to them follow with SW and another Blind. The opponent is usually dead within moments.

Brutes and Stalkers are another matter, you can't stand enough status effects to break through their toggles. So you need to open with Spectral Terror to keep them in place and then use Hurricane to push them into a corner to pin them down. Then lay into them as hard as possible, snow storm helps here to prevent them from escaping the Hurricane very well. Endurance IS an issue when facing a brute and the fight isn't over quickly, use Decieve to reduce your chance of being hit, the debuff from hurricane will reduce your chances of harm even futher.

TP foe is very handy, I use it alot in PvP. Summon PA, and have the Terror up as well. Summon freezing rain and then activate tp. Lay into them as hard as possible then. In the higher zones like RV these same tricks work wonders except you don't need to rely on ambushes as much and your damage potential is much much higher. Opening with Tornado is a must because it does two things. Firstly if they have acrobatics you'll notice that a non-melee AT won't be sent flying by the Tornado, that means you need to adjust tactics slightly. Thankfully the chance of a stun from Tornado might knock their acro off anyway. Once they have been bounced once their knockback supression kicks in and they're taking a killer DoT from the tornado which is sticking to them like a buzzsaw. You then need to summon PA to start up the psi damage and open with Decieve. Liberal use of SI in PvP is obvious and you don't want to cause supression unless it's very safe to do so. Opening with a Decieve when PA is out helps because the effect will cause the target to switch randomly between 4 targets. Giving you only a 25% chance of being hit. Once that is done you can pretty much proceed as you please, I find Thunder Storm is great on the higher levels especially with a Hasten buff.

Phantasm in PvP is something of a liability. It aggro's the NPCs, it needs to be made invisible so it doesn't give away your location and it might aggro to another player which you didn't mean to attack.

A good trick for PvP against Stalkers is to never be near the ground without having Tornado out and stand within the Tornado should you come to a standstill. Stalkers hate it because if they walk into it they might get knocked around if they have Ninjitsu but at the very least it'll knock them out of Hide, prevent an AS and then aggro to them preventing them from rehiding. Even if they use Placate on you the Tornado isn't effected at all so it keeps attacking and preventing them from then using an AS on you. Although a powerful critical might be enough to finish you off.

The great thing about a high level Illus/Storm in PvP is that they can utterly destory Granite tankers and brutes. People who PvP with Granite think they're unstoppable, I've come across a number who thought they were tough as iron however you have every trick which overcomes their benefits. Firstly you can slap snowstorm on them, their inherant -speed debuff combined with the snowstorm means they're crawling. They can't jump or fly away without dropping Granite. Teleport does work however. You can then lay into them with all you got, while keeping at range or going Invisible and moving to a distance. The granite tanker/brute then can't do anything to get out of this deathtrap they've walked into. I've yet to have a granite tanker defeat me with SFX, I've seen plenty however do one of two things. Run or Die.
